Cleaning Discolored Plastic
We use plastics everyday in our life, a lot of the products that we use each and every day come from plastics. Whether its plastics found in toys, food containers, or even playing cards it. Many plastics have helped us become even more inclined, cleaning discolored plastic can be a tremendous headache though. What type of products do we use, and what are the best plastic cleaning methods?
The reason that plastics are so popular is they are extremely durable. Plastic really doesn't need a whole lot of attention or maintenance and typically only requires some cleaning now and then. One of the first things to think about is what type of cleaning you'll be doing. The best thing to do is start cleaning your plastic with a warm rinse. Don't use cold water, cold water doesn't do a good job of breaking down and removing bacteria.
Start by rubbing the product with hot water, you'll also want to use a sponge. Don't use any soap at this time as you are trying to agitate the dirt and help the overall cleaning process. Don't use a hard brush as you'll scratch the service and possibly cause permanent damage. After rubbing the products with warm water you will want to begin by introducing a cleaning compound to the device. You want to be sure that your soaps or cleaners don't include acidic or alkaline based solutions as they can cause your plastics to break down. You will want to use soaps, or other specialized cleaners that you buy at your local grocery store. Begin by adding a little bit of your cleaner to some warm water. Starting with an initial rinse saves you time and will allow you to clean your object a lot easier.
If you happen to be cleaning a smaller object you will not want to put it in the dishwasher, dishwashers will heat up to levels that are too hot for most commercial plastics. As plastic gets hotter it begins to become flexible and bendable. Avoid things like boiling water or devices that utilize boiling water such as dishwashers, washing machines and stoves that have boiling water. Boiling water is plastics worst nightmare. That means things like actual hot temperatures as well so avoid microwaves, ovens and hair driers. Heat will destroy the structural integrity of any type of plastic.
If you are going to be cleaning chairs or outside furniture, outside furniture needs a different type of cleaning method. You'll want to grab a sponge and bucket with warm water and bleach. Breakdown the dirt and gunk by giving the chairs a quick rinse. Now that you've finished that initial rinse, which will cut your cleaning time in half, now is when you'll want to use the bleach hot water mix. Now is the time to roll up your sleeves and get to work, at this time you wanna grab your brush and begin using those muscles to scrub the chairs. Once you've cleaned the chairs up well you'll want to let them sit for about five minutes, after the waiting time you'll need to do a final rinse. Once you've completed the final rinse down you should be good to go.
Whatever plastics you end up cleaning discolored plastic be sure to stick to these key principles, if you don't clean with these rules in mind you may have adverse affects. Your plastics won't hold up if you don't abide by these simple cleaning rules.
